Well, Ok, it's not going so well. I've only managed 1784 words. So NaNoWriMo is rapidly morphing into Nation Write Most of (a very short) Short Story Month.
I used to be good at this! I got A's on all my assignments in creative writing class.
I'm not even sure I like my main character.
On the other hand, it beats watching TV and reading low brow magazines.
I don't know if I'll put it up--depends on if the content is suitable for a Catholic Blog.
UPDATE: Ashes and Dust is now at 5813 words--not nearly so far behind! I wonder what it's about....I'm just writing events that seem to be in sequence, but I have no overreaching theme. I guess I'll find out at the end of the month.

You're in big trouble. You have to write 1667 (it's actually 1666 but I didn't like all those 6's so I added one word) words per day to keep up. That means you are 8335 words behind.
The point of NaNoWriMo is to prove to yourself that you can write on demand. It doesn't have to be perfect - it just needs to be done.
I can remember hitting that bad place in the middle they warned us about, and just writing gibberish.
Now get to your desk and write...
That's and order!
Yes Ma'am.
They just ate fish.
OK--It's better, the word count is 3823, and I want to eat my breakfast/lunch. I'll come back to it later.
1784 words is pretty darn good!
I don't know why they do this contest in one of the most busy times of the year. Thanksgiving is hectic for us moms.
Where is this NaNo web page? What are the rules. Can I start now for next year and do other people read the drivel I could produce? Does my grammar have to be good? and my spellin' hahaha
Belinda, I don't think it's a contest, I just think it's something you do. I have no idea if there even is a web page--although I know there's a little thing you can post up on your blog if you're doing it.
I don't expect anyone to really read what I'm writing, except Elizabeth who comments here and my youngest daughter.
Basically, I'm doing this because I can't afford to build a boat in the basement.
I started without one teeny iota of what I was going to write. Not one! I did, however, speed read No Plot, No Problemjust days before November 1st which was a big help.
As time went on the characters took over and finished it for me - including the ending.
NaNoWriMo is the type of things where us ADD'ers shine. We can hyper-focus and live almost completely in the right hemisphere of the old noggin. No linear thinking for us.
Now my hubby is after me to do my rewrite and submit it somewhere.
Hint: Set aside a specific time to write. I did my best in the evening. If you're a morning person, write from say 6am to 8am. On a good day log in some extra words, too. Trust me - you'll need them later when the mid-November doldrums hit.
You can do it!!
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Andrienne! I got up over 9Kwords today, and So I don't feel too bad.
I'm not worried about plot, really. Tings happen--I had an idea of one event, and one type of character I wanted, and then an image in my head.
so now I finish an event and think, what would I want to happen next if I ran the universe? Then I do that. The problem is one of my characters has already gotten beyond my control, and is doing whatever the heck she wants. i hope she doesn't start sabotaging the events I want to happen.
It really *does* help if you treat them as people. As her what's up: she might surprise you.
Or write songs for you. Still getting over how weird THAT was.
